Another European leader escaped the motion of no confidence

Vox is 89-year-old Ramón Tamames named an independent economist as candidate for prime minister in his motion of no confidence, who during the democratic transition following the Franco dictatorship He was a member of the Spanish Communist Party.

In the parliamentary debate on the proposal that began on Tuesday, Tamames presented his program and called for an economic and social pact between the “constitutional parties” for the country’s progress, proposed amending the electoral law to avoid “the preponderance of nationalist and separatist representation”, and the conclusion of a national agreement between the Spanish and restoration of peace”.

For the second time in this parliamentary term, Vox submitted a motion of no confidence against the socialist Pedro Sánchez. This time, the initiative was presented to the legislature two months before the local elections and nine months before the parliamentary elections.

In the 45-year history of Spanish democracy, this was the sixth no-confidence motion, only one of which was successful: in 2018, Pedro Sánchez replaced Mariano Rajoy, president of the conservative People’s Party (PP), as prime minister.
