Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said spokesperson Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) ousting Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and himself from the intelligence committee would ultimately bring “mistrust” to the intelligence community that shares classified information with them.
Schiff, who has already started doing it fundraiser Being blocked by the Intel Committee, Wednesday he led a news conference joined by Swalwell and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), criticizing McCarthy’s decision. He stated:
Arrogating himself [McCarthy], the decision on who on the Democratic side of the aisle should lead the intelligence committee who should sit on the intelligence committeehe will cause intelligence agencies I think, to be wary of this action, and combined with the formation of this so-called Federal Government Armament Select Committee, which will apparently have access to classified information, I just think that, it will generate mistrust within the intelligence community about what it can share and what it can feel safe to share with Congress that will impact policy makers in terms of the information we have to make decisions about how to protect our national security . [Emphasis added.]
The California congressman noted that McCarthy barred members from being placed on specific committees for “bowing to the demands of the more extreme elements of his conference,” as well as former President Donald Trump. He also said McCarthy’s blocking him from the committee shows the speaker’s “weakness” in the position.
The move from McCarthy came after he recently reiterated his plans to remove Democrats from their specific jobs more than a year ago, before he became President. McCarthy clarified his plans to Breitbart News Washington bureau chief Matthew Boyle. during an exclusive long-form interview in December 2021.
At the time, he noted that this was because Schiff “knowingly … used a fake dossier” to lie to the American people, among other reasons, and Swalwell “can’t get a private sector security clearance, [so] there’s no reason it should be given one” to Congress after the FBI discovered he had ties to a Chinese spy named Fang Fang, which Breitbart News also exclusively published reported.
