The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on more than 150 individuals, companies and institutions for their role in supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The sanctions were imposed on companies and individuals in Russia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Georgia to deny Russia access to technology, money and financial channels that are fueling its war against Ukraine.
Most are Russian manufacturers, trading companies and institutes that support the production of weapons and other goods for the Russian Armed Forces, as well as individuals who own or run these entities.
“The US government is targeting individuals and entities involved in sanctions evasion, those responsible for Russia’s ability to continue its war against Ukraine, and those responsible for facilitating future Russian energy production,” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement. .
“The purpose of these measures is to limit Russia’s defense manufacturing capabilities,” said James O’Brien, head of the US State Department’s Sanctions Coordination Office.
The sanctions also aim to hamper the development of Russia’s energy sector and future sources of income, including Arctic gas projects, mining and Russian weapons production and repair factories.
