In Russia, in the Kudimkara district of the Perm region, a monument to the repressed Poles and Lithuanians, which was erected in the area of the former village of the deported, was demolished, the Perm organization “Historical Memory Center” announced.
Local residents noticed on Friday that the monument is no longer there. It is not yet known when the monument will be demolished, the organization said.
The names of Poles and Lithuanians who died in the special village of Gaļashora were immortalized in the monument. A total of 89 people were mentioned.
The monument was erected at the expense of private individuals, including those who lived in Gaļashor until the special village was liquidated.
“It is absolutely obvious to me that the only reason for the destruction of the monument is the nationality of the people to whom it was dedicated,” Roberts Latipovs, chairman of the Perm organization “Memorials”, told “Novaya gazeta”.
“Poland and Lithuania are now considered ‘unfriendly countries’, which means that everything associated with them will be destroyed,” he added.
Representatives of the local authority have not commented on the disappearance of the monument.
