Why has Russia lost such a large number of soldiers after a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which is likely to be written in six figures? The British intelligence service believes that the widespread use of alcohol among Russian military personnel plays a significant role in the quantitative expression of this circumstance.

The British Ministry of Defense believes that alcohol consumption is one of the reasons for the high number of casualties of Russian forces in Ukraine. Although Russia has lost up to 200,000 soldiers wounded or dead since the start of the war of aggression just over a year ago, a large proportion of these are due to causes other than actual combat operations, Britain’s Ministry of Defense said, citing intelligence.

“Russian commanders believe that the widespread use of alcohol is particularly harmful to the effectiveness of combat operations.”

Earlier this week, someone social media sites Telegram A Russian channel reported that there had been an “extremely high” number of alcohol-related incidents, crimes and deaths in the armed forces. Heavy drinking was widespread in Russian society and tacitly accepted as part of military life, including combat missions. Other major causes of non-combat deaths could include unprofessional handling of weapons, traffic accidents and weather-related health problems such as hypothermia.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense has published daily updates on the progress of the war. Citing intelligence, the British government wants to both counter the Russian narrative and keep allies in line. Moscow, on the other hand, accuses London of a targeted disinformation campaign.
