At least six million visitors are expected at Germany’s biggest beer festival this year.
However, the festival is overshadowed by high inflation, with a liter of beer costing between 12.60 and 14.90 euros, which is about 6.1% more expensive than last year.
About 600 police officers are expected to work at the event, as well as about 450 medics, 55 doctors and 2,000 assistants.
In 2020, Oktoberfest was canceled for the first time since World War II due to the pandemic. Also in 2021, due to the spread of Covid-19, the event did not take place. In the more than 200-year history of the festival, there have been longer interruptions only during the war.
The beginning of the October beer festival was the wedding celebration of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Theresa of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810.
