Germany promised a total of four IRIS-T systems to Ukraine, of which the second has now arrived. The previous device arrived in Ukraine in October, and the Ukrainian armed forces repelled several drone attacks with it in the Kyiv region.
The IRIS-T SLM is one of the most modern air defense systems in the world: it began to be installed in the German army in 2022. Perhaps its biggest drawback is that it is very expensive: a launch system costs 180 million euros, a single IRIS-T rocket costs 300,000 euros. In recent months, the Russians have deliberately tried to overload these air defense systems with cheap Iranian drones.
