“March 8 represents the tortuous path of women towards that gender equality still largely unfulfilled today, especially in the workplace, despite the battles and conquests made for the affirmation of their freedom and rights, first of all that of work. It remains difficult, often impossible, to reconcile work with motherhood and family management and it is still utopian to imagine equal access to the labor market, career opportunities and equal wages. Conditions worsened over the last two years by the pandemic, which has amplified gender differences by exacerbating inequalities and also leading to an increase in female unemployment in Sardinia and difficulties in accessing the labor market, especially for immigrant women, a resource invaluable for our economy and our society “. Thus the Labor Councilor, Alessandra Zedda, today in the Regional Council for the celebrations of International Women’s Day.

As immigration delegate, Councilor Zedda addresses a thought to immigrant women and, in this specific historical moment, to Ukrainian women, expressing closeness to those who have left or are leaving their home and loved ones in these hours to seek refuge and human warmth elsewhere: “We must look to them with fraternal affection, promoting their inclusion at every level and working against all forms of violence and in favor of rights and freedom”.

“The Region is engaged in the delicate and fundamental task of giving legs to strategic projects – financed with regional, national and European resources – useful for combating the phenomenon of gender-based violence and highlighting all those activities in which women are protagonists, such as motherhood, study, work, volunteering – she explains, defining the female world – the true engine of progress and development ”.

The Assessor also recalls the various initiatives aimed at celebrating the day, in particular the online posting of an unpublished video on the institutional website and the delivery of material on women through the streets of the city of Cagliari, carried out by the volunteers of the Civil Service of the Acli . T-shirts, a photo frame and postcards / bookmarks were produced with the table produced by the cartoonist Bepi Vigna, slogan “Live Free, free to live”. The material will be used to animate the city of Cagliari: the Acli Civil Service volunteers will wear the T-shirts made with the graphics chosen for the occasion, walking around the city center delivering the postcards / bookmark in exchange for a photo, using the frame created ad hoc for the event.
